| Welcome to Maplewild Farm,
currently the home of the Maplewild
Project. The Maplewild Project is the creation of a
sustainable organic farm from scratch. The project is scheduled to be
"complete" by the fall of 2009, if not sooner. Maplewild Farm will sell
CSA
(Community Supported Agriculture) subscriptions as the primary focus of
the business. It is my hope to make shares available for all four
seasons someday, but three seasons for sure. The Maritime Northwest climate of Washington state allows many varieties of vegetables, fruits and herbs to grow quite well. Particular attention will pe paid to heirloom and open pollinated selections as well as several Asian and specialty varieties. The focus on plants that grow well here will be of interest to anyone that is seeking out a healthier diet based on produce that has been grown locally. I have become a believer in local food and the 100 mile diet movement, food that comes from within a one hundred mile radius. Maplewild Farm will make eating local food easier. The location in Northwest Snohomish County will allow convenient service to residents of Stanwood, Smokey Point, Marysville, Tulalip and Everett. With skyrocketing land values threatening the future of the remaining local conventional farm land, this specialty project will become a valuable asset to the community, providing the highest quality locally grown organic produce possible. As diesel prices continue to soar, the cost of produce trucked in from distant farms will become more and more expensive in the future, further adding to the value of local eco-farming. |
